Growing Energy of Living Plants

As the weather turns warmer, our thoughts and energy turn to the outdoors: gardens, lawns, flowers, and nature. Watching the crocuses and tulips pop out of the ground gives us an energetic lift. Plants are a wonderful basic ch'i enhancer. They enhance the energy of our environment both inside and out. Nothing brightens a room quite as quickly as a bouquet of fresh flowers or a container of blooming spring bulb flowers.

Since plants are a ch'i enhancer, they can be used to enhance all of the guas. A major criteria for using plants is that they be well maintained, healthy, and lush. A dead, dying, or sick plant lowers the energy of a space. So please, no plant hospitals or plant morgues. The exact opposite can happen though too. If a plant is so healthy that it is growing out of control and taking over a room or seems to overpower seating areas, then it's time to trim it back.

Ideal plants are the friendly variety. This would be plants with rounded leaves or a draping appearance. Plants with thorns (roses, cactus) or sharp leaves (mother-in-law's tongue) are considered unfriendly. It's ok to have these in your homes or yard, but be sure to surround them with friendly plants so that humans won't come in contact with them. Dried plants/flowers are considered good for only one season. Then they should be discarded. Silk plants have a much longer life span as long as they are well maintained. Be sure they are regularly dusted and washed. When they no longer look fresh, then it's time to let them go too.

If you're looking to create a more stable and grounded environment, tree-like plants are ideally kept out of the center of the home. The center is related to the Earth element. Wood energy (trees) uproots earth, causing less stability. Small plants are acceptable here, although I would include earth elements with them, such as ceramic pots, earth colors, or squares.

Feng Shui 2004 Parade Home

As I mentioned in last month's newsletter, Michael F. Simon Builders is constructing a parade home with Feng Shui principles in mind. An interesting new development this year will be that all 31 homes will be open later on the two Friday nights during the parade. Instead of closing at 8:00 p.m., the closing time will be 10:00 p.m. on those evenings. This will give you an excellent opportunity to see how the home interiors look in the evening along with their evening landscape lighting. Hours for the parade will be Monday - Thursday 3-8 p.m., Friday 3-10 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 12-6 p.m. June 12-27. The sites in this year's parade are Bergamont in Oregon, Blackhawk in Madison, Middleton Hills in Middleton, and Montondon Addition to Savannah Village in Waunakee.

I indicated in a previous newsletter that the Wisconsin Feng Shui Guild would be giving mini-talks on Feng Shui during the Parade. This has changed and we won't be doing the talks. However, we will still have representatives at the Parade to answer any questions you have about the house or Feng Shui.

Joy Notes Q&A

Joy,

I have several shaped multi-faceted crystals. Can I use them as cures in my home?

Maryanne, Verona, WI

Maryanne,

Shaped crystals are great for energizing a room. Placing them in a sunny window can create rainbows of energy about the room. If there is a particular cure that is needed, however, a round, multi-faceted crystal is the best choice. Energy enters a round crystal and disperses evenly in all directions. This makes a round crystal ideal for:

  • Dispersing energy caused by sharp corners
  • Anchoring a missing corner from the interior of the building
  • Energizing a gua/room that needs to have the energy strengthened and energized
  • Dispersing the downward energy of a stairway
  • Slowing down the fast energy of a long hallway
